 Promoting the public education of Archaeology in Hampshire


The purpose of the Committee is to promote the public education of Archaeology in Hampshire. The Committee is composed of representatives from:

  • Archaeological Societies
  • Local Councils and Hampshire County Council
  • Educational bodies in Hampshire and nationally
  • Museums
  • Other Archaeological bodies in Hampshire and nationally

The activities of the Committee are to

  • Hold a Conference on recent Archaeology in Hampshire. Details of the the 2007 Local Societies Conference are now available.
  • Periodically publish a review of Archaeology in Hampshire over the previous period, currently the The Millennium Publication
  • Publish a Directory of Hampshire Archaeology
  • Sponsor projects through planning and assembling resources to carry them out, and assisting in other projects generally through establishing the following facilities:

    • Media Data Bank to provide publicity for a project to obtain manpower locally, regionally & nationally
    • People Data Bank of people interested in various types of archaeological project, and issue them with a Briefing Calendar of archaeological projects being undertaken in Hampshire
    • Funding Data Bank of sources of support for projects in Hampshire
    • Equipment Data Bank of sources of equipment available for loan or lease
    • Maintain a Library of all Sponsored Projects and insure their publication

  • Conduct a Site Supervisors Training Course
